Hey. How's about a House Music Monday ? Sometimes I'll talk about it, but most times I probably won't and just post some tunes. If you were there you probably already know, anyway.
Jeanette Thomas - Shake Your Body (House Shaker Version) (1987) [zsh] ♥♥
"Master Blaster" was recorded by dance music heavy-weights George Morel and Nathaniel Pierre Jones (DJ Pierre!) and released on Strictly Rhythm in 1992. It was, undeniably, peak-time warehouse nightclub devastation. By the time this song came on, creeping across a massive sound system to a roar of recognition from the crowd, usually well after 4:00 AM, the room was already pretty much soaking wet. I used to love to watch the breakdown of the general boundaries of where certain social groups would congregate, and by the time a song like "Master Blaster" was being played, I'd be able to look out and see Chelsea muscle queens boogie-ing down with trannies from the piers, right and proper.
Joint Venture - Master Blaster (Turn It Up) (1992) [zsh]
"What is House Muzik ?" was recorded in the mid-90s by Phuture Scope, one of DJ Pierre's aliases. Still groovy.
Phuture Scope - What Is House Muzik ? (Wild Pitch Mix) (1994) [zsh]
I used to not like "Work That Mutha Fucker" very much because it has the F-word in it, but I'm older and I say the F-word all the time now, so it's all right. I used to think that the song was a little too 'stripped down' in its stripdownedness, but now I believe that this is part of its charm, and it still managed to drive people into fits on a dancefloor. It's an obvious choice for a House Music Monday, right ? I read that the song was made entirely using only a Casio RZ-1 drum machine. So hardcore. ♥ that.
