Magnfique - Magnifique
So, so hot. 2007 bootleg of the 1979 disco classique written and produced by Anthony Monn. Some kids'll poo-poo the repressing over the original but I don'care. Gonna get up and dance to it anyway. Jersey Devil Social Club, or Morgan Geist, paid homage to Magnifique with a worthy re-interpretation in 2004. Magnfique - Magnifique Part 1 [zsh]

The Doobie Brothers - Jesus Is Just All Right
This is a post about the Doobie Brothers. The Doobie Brothers are essentially Michael Hossack, Tom Johnston, John McFee, Patrick Simmons, Guy Allison, and Ed Toth. The Doobie Brothers are not real brothers, but are more likely just some "bros" from Northern California."Jesus Is Just All Right" was written in 1969 by a man named Arthur Reid Reynolds whose name is Celtic in origin and means "A follower of Thor", according to Is This Your Name? The song was recorded by The Byrds in 1969 but was barely noticed on the pop charts, then covered by psychedlic rock band Underground Sunshine in 1970, which failed to chart. The song was then covered by The Doobie Brothers, who released it as the second single from their 1972 album, 'TOULOUSE STREET', which became a big hit for the band. If any song is in need of a re-edit, it's this one.
The Doobie Brothers are singing about a man named Jesus who walked on water, raised the dead, scared the bejesus out of a lady just trying to get a drink of water from a well, saved the world, and a bunch of other stuff that you can read about on your own time. Contrary to popular belief, the Doobie Brothers did not appear on Soul Train, although Michael McDonald once did. I was going to post the Sure Is Pure remix of "Long Train Runnin" but I don't think those remixes have held up very well over time. I say this confidently after last nights Sunscreem extravaganza, but also considering that there's a ten minute Victor Rosado remix of "Long Train Runnin'" out on East End Records and available from places like Turntable Lab that's an absolute long running disco monster. Must have it.

Sunscreem - Love U More (A Version)
What better way to round out a Sunscreem excursion than with the single that started it all back in 1992. There were at least a dozen remixes of this song released but the single version is my favorite. Sunscreem - Love U More (A Version) [zsh]

Discodeine - Tom Select (La Horse Remix)
I was all set to love the third Discodeine EP 'TOM SELECT', with remixes by Joakim and La Horse (who is Danton Eeprom and Ivan Smagghe) after last year's excellent 'JOYSTICK' and 'TEXAS GLADIATORS', but after a few listens "Tom Select" hasn't quite taken off for me yet. Maybe for you ? Something seemed about to happen half way through the La Horse remix, which is still my favorite of the two mixes on the new EP. Discodeine - Tom Select (La Horse Remix) [zsh]
